Exhibition "udk"

Rede.jpg
Over 30 professors for Fine Arts of the University Berlin are exhibiting together at the Berlinische Galerie. I visited the opening of the exhibtion udk and unfortunately I found it hard to relate to most of the pieces. I was particularily surprised by the persistancy of established styles. I made some pictures though.

Guard on the way to tell me that I must not take pictures. Other guards made sure that nobody took food into the exhibition area.

Medienkunst ist schlimmer als Kunst

Medienkunst.jpg
Yesterday the exhibition "Experience Art! - Installationen, interaktive und kinetische Kunst" opened in "ART CENTER BERLIN FRIEDRICHSTRASSE", a new office building in the heart of what we call "Neue Mitte". Feeling more and more left behind by media art which heavily relies on the top layer of technological appeal I was definitely not part of the target audience for this exhibition. Nevertheless the pieces made an excellent environment to have conversations about the differences between art and media art.

Many

I have to admit that I first was not sure about what to think of Bernd and Hilla Becher's exhibition "Typologien industrieller Bauten" at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. It just seemed to fit the formula "big, small, many or naked" in a sense that it showed MASSIVE amounts of pictures of industrial sites. But after a while I got seriously excited by this incredible collection which changed my view of what industrialisation has been. I was also impressed by the consistency and the stubbornness which one could feel in the artists' work.
Don't miss this exhibition if you are in Berlin before January 8th, 2006!

Oh, and they also had Passau's "Winterhafen" in their collection. Brought back memories of exceptional skateboarding sessions.

Andrea and I relaunched the website of her parent's traditional bakery in Bavaria: www.grafmuehle.de. So next time you pass Passau (maybe on your way to Ars Electronica) drop by and get some fresh bread in the lifestyle bakery Grafmühle!

Tod

Tod1.jpg
The exhibition "Fraktale IV - Tod" is the last one of a series in the "Palast der Republik" by the artist group Fraktale. The exhibition is quite impressive including stirring installations as well as excellent paintings. Definitly worth visiting! (17.9.-22.10. every day from 10-20).

The location (Palast der Republik) is a thrilling experience in itself. This white hall is not really representative for the place. It is more or less a sceleton of steel and concrete.

Gross, klein, viel oder nackt

artforum4.jpg
Being someone who does not know much about art business the Art Forum Berlin 2005 art fair was a rather instructive and funny experience for me. But one could not just witness the business side of art but also see art which must more or less represent the smallest common denominator between artist and consumer. So we experienced the ultimate compromise in three big halls.
